Jekyll Harbor Marina, Jekyll Island, GA
The weather is still wet and cold, but we are determined to get off the boat today and try to explore. Broke out my insta-pancake mix for breakfast this morning and threw in some chocolate chips for good measure. This recipe makes it easy to make pancakes from scratch (like the diy pancake mixes you can buy at the grocery store), and all you have to add is milk, an egg, and butter.
We kept our promise to ourselves to get moving, so around lunchtime Ron and I handed over the e-bikes to Griff and Skeet, and the two of us borrowed beach cruisers from the marina. I'm embarrassed to say I've been here almost two days and haven't ventured past the restaurant by the dock, but the conditions are literally the kind of bone-chilling cold and wet that make you want to do absolutely anything EXCEPT ride a bike. Ron and Skeet showed us this cool bike path that took us to the central area of Jekyll where you can find a market, shops, and several good restaurants. It's also where several hotels are located.
The Jekyll Market is a quaint grocery store, restaurant, gift shop, and bakery all rolled into one. It seems to have a little bit of something for everyone with a really friendly and low-key vibe. We wandered around inside just to get an idea of what they had in stock, and then went to eat lunch at Wee Pub Beach just across the street. Great food, service, and atmosphere, but you'd have to work really hard to dissatisfy someone who's been spared from cooking another meal 😂
It was drizzling when we left the pub, so we scrapped any hopes of exploring and headed back to the boat. Everyone was disappointed (and soaked!) but still in good spirits, using the afternoon to relax, wrap presents, clean up a bit, and lose all their money to me in poker. 😇
Night night KORKZcrew!
